All applicants must hold a valid Merchant Mariner's Document or Merchant Mariner's Credential. You must also have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Safety Administration. Additionally, an applicant for a position as a deck officer (Mate) must possess a license with first class pilotage (Great Lakes) endorsement, and an applicant for a position as an engine officer (Engineer) must possess an unlimited steam or diesel license.
